Walton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population was 60,687. The 2005 Census Estimate placed the population at 75,647 [1]. The county seat is Monroe, Georgia6.
This county is a part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area (Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area).

Note: The first Walton County was created in 1803 as a Georgia county and was reported in 1810 as part of Georgia; it was abolished in 1812 after a review of the State boundary determined its area to be located in North Carolina. The present-day Walton County was created in 1818, comprising territory included in Jackson County in 1810.
