[edit] Township of OxfordOxford is a civil township situated in the east-central part of the county of Johnson, state of Kansas, United States of America. Only fragments of its original territory remain after multiple annexations by incorporated cities. [edit] HistorySanta Fe was one of the eight original civil townships erected at a meeting of the county commissioners on 28 October 1857 after the county was erected in 1855. The name was chosen because of its proximity to the town of the same name across the border in Missouri and the famous trail which passed through the area. The name was later changed to Oxford. The new civil township encompassed parts of townships 13 and 14 south, of ranges 24 and 25 east of the Sixth Principal Meridian. [edit] BoundariesThe township of Oxford was originally bounded on the north by the township of Shawnee, on the east by the state of Missouri (including the counties of Jackson and Cass and townships of Washington and Mount Pleasant), on the south by the township of Aubry, and on the west by the township of Olathe. When the township of Mission was formed in the 1890s, the northern boundary of Oxford was moved 1.5 miles to the south. [edit] Research Tips
