For a definition of "wapentake", see the article entitled Hundred (county division) in Wikipedia.

Wapentakes, the Old Norse form of the Anglo-Saxon "hundred", are dealt with in Section 1.4, but Sections 1.1 (Hundred courts) and 1.2 (Administrative functions) deal with the concept and purposes of wapentakes along with those of "hundreds" used in English counties further south.

the text in this section is based on an article in Wikipedia

Ouse and Derwent (#1 on map) was a wapentake of the historic East Riding of Yorkshire, England consisting of the westerly part of the county, between the River Ouse and the River Derwent. Established in medieval times, it ceased to have much significance in the 19th century when the wapentakes were superseded by other administrative divisions for most local government purposes.

The area of the wapentake (but none of its powers) was transferred to the new administrative county of North Yorkshire in 1974.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Ouse and Derwent Wapentake from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"OUSE and DERWENT, a wapentake in the W of [East Riding of] Yorkshire; bounded, on the S and the W, by the river Ouse, on the E, by the river Derwent; and containing Dunnington parish, ten other parishes, and parts of three others. Acres: 54,129. Population in 1851: 10,811; in 1861: 11,844. Houses: 2,350."

A Vision of Britain through Time mistakenly titles its Ouse and Derwent page "Ouse and Derwent West Riding".

Some parishes of the Ouse and Derwent Wapentake were formerly in the Ainsty Wapentake in the West Riding.
