Township of Monticello

Monticello historically was a civil township in the north central part of the county of Johnson, state of Kansas, United States of America. It was bounded on the east by the township of Shawnee, on the south by the township of Olathe, on the west by the township of Lexington, and on the west and north by the Kansas River and the county of Wyandotte (including the township of Delaware). Its territory was eventually completely annexed into the incorporated cities of Bonner Springs (which is mostly in the county of Wyandotte), Shawnee, Lenexa, and Olathe.

History

Monticello was one of the eight original civil townships erected at a meeting of the county commissioners on 28 October 1857 after the county was erected in 1855. The new civil township encompassed parts of townships 11, 12 and 13 south, of range 23 east of the Sixth Principal Meridian.
