- "A village in Dumfries and Galloway, Moniaive lies on the Dalwhat Water, 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Thornhill and 15 miles (28 km) north of Dumfries. Designated a burgh of barony in 1636, it was popular with artists and holidaymakers in the 19th century. Maxweltown House, the birth place of Annie Laurie, lies 3 miles (5 km) east of the village."
