Howtel is a village in Northumberland, England about 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Wooler.

For more information, see the EN Wikipedia article Howtel.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Howtel from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"HOWTELL, a township in Kirk-Newton parish, Northumberland; 5½ miles WNW of Wooler. Acres: 1,145. Population: 141. Houses: 31. A fragment of an ancient peel tower is here, engrossed in some farm buildings."

Howtel was a township in the ancient parish of Kirknewton and became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 until 1974 the parish was part of Glendale Rural District. In 1955 the civil parish was abolished and the area was absorbed into the parish of Kilham.
