Gloucester St. Catherine was an early chapelry which became an ecclesiastical parish within the City of Gloucester. It was a civil parish between 1866 and 1896.

Up until the Dissolution of the Monasteries (between 1536 and 1541), the church of St. Catherine was known as St. Oswald's. (Source:Victoria County History of Gloucestershire)

The parish of Longford St. Catherine was ecclesiastically linked to Gloucester St. Catherine. In 1885 St. Catherine underwent a number of alterations in its borders with neighbouring parishes. These are outlined in A Vision of Britain through Time. The parish was located to the north and east of Gloucester Cathedral.
