Gloucester South Hamlet was an extra-parochial area until 1858 and a civil parish from 1858 until 1896 when it became part of the city of Gloucester. It underwent a number of alterations of its borders with neighbouring parishes in 1882 and 1885. These are outlined in A Vision of Britain through Time. As its name suggests, Gloucester South Hamlet is to the south of Gloucester Cathedral. Being an extraparochial area, there were no registrations before 1837.
