A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Eshott from John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles of 1887:
- "Eshott, township, Felton par., N. Northumberland, on river Coquet, 7½ miles NW. of Morpeth, 1798 acres, population: 140; contains Eshott House."
Eshott was a township in the ancient parish of Felton. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 until 1955 it was part of Morpeth Rural District. In 1955 the civil parish was abolished and the area was absorbed into the newly-formed parish of Thirston.
