A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Detchant from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"DETCHANT, a township in Belford parish, Northumberland; 2 miles NNW of Belford. Population: 145. Houses: 29."

Detchant was a township in the parish of Belford, and has been, since 1955, part of the civil parish of Middleton.
