NOTE: This village of Broad Hinton (near Swindon) should not be confused with Broad Hinton, a liberty in the civil parish of Hurst, Berkshire (near Reading). That part of Hurst was a detached part of Wiltshire until the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844 transferred the liberty to Berkshire.

Broad Hinton is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England, about 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Swindon. The parish includes the hamlets of Uffcott and The Weir.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Broad Hinton from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"BROAD-HINTON, a parish in Marlborough [registration] district, Wilts; 4¼ miles SE of Wooton-Basset [railway] station, and 6 SSW of Swindon. It has a post office under Swindon. Acres: 3,659. Real property: £2,826. Population: 657. Houses: 141. The property is divided among about sixteen. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Salisbury. Value: £302. Patron: St. Nicholas Hospital, Salisbury. The church is old but good; and has a square embattled tower. The vicarage of Broad Town is a separate benefice. A school has £42 from endowment; and other charities have £32. Sir John Glanville, the eminent lawyer, was a resident."
