Bethel (Doxsee) Cemetery is an inactive cemetery near the small community of Bethel in Prince Edward County, Ontario. Interments date between 1826 and 1947. On Google Satellite imagery, the cemetery appears to be a 50 meter square plot on the west side of Trumble Road (a dirt road), approximately 220 meters south of Bethel Road. The turn off to the cemetery is marked, in Google Street view images, with a small yellow sign leaning against a tree at the turn off from Bethel Road onto Trumble (Trumble does not have street view images).

The cemetery is currently maintained by Prince Edward County and some gravestones were recently restored.

Documentation, Transcriptions, Websites

It appears to be a community cemetery and no register of burials has been located to date.

A family plot map, apparently original to the establishment of the cemetery in the 19th century (i.e. circa 1830s), shows a simple plan extending west from Trumble Road which consists of three main ranges (North, Middle, and South), each subdivided into 11 rows of family plots, plus a narrow strip "Allotted to Strangers" extending along the south perimeter.[1]

Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid (OCFA): There are currently 233 names indexed for Bethel/Doxsee in OCFA (as multiple names are often listed on one grave marker, this represents a smaller number of burials).

CemSearch: 217 burials are transcribed in CemSearch, but the ability to search this resource by cemetery name is currently under construction.

Findagrave: The cemetery is partially transcribed (14 burials), with additional research on individuals provided, at findagrave.com as of September 2014. See Find A Grave: Bethel - (Doxsee) Cemetery.

Ontario GenWeb Cemetery Project: There is a limited listing for the cemetery at Ontario GenWeb Cemetery Project - Bethel / Doxsee Cemetery, but note that no transcriptions or photos are available on this page as of September 2014.

Reconstruction of cemetery plan and possible burial locations

It is not known if the family plot plan was followed for all interments. The plan's components are replicated in bold text in the table below. By combining the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid index with CemSearch records, it is possible to identify burials and assign them to the most probable family plot and these are indicated in small italic text in the table below (but note well: these assignments have not been checked in the field and could be wrong).
