Person talk:William Edmiston (3)

DOB [17 February 2009]

A DOB of 1694 is here given for William Edmiston's DOB. A source for this is needed. Given that his cousin, Col. Person:William Edmiston (5) did not die until 1822, a 1694 DOB seems unreasonably early. Most other genealogists seem to give his DOB as c1727--Q 12:03, 17 February 2009 (EST)

Spouse

Many genealogists identify his wife as "Agness Holmes". His will identifies her as "Agness". What is the basis for giving her maiden name as "Holmes". Q 16:32, 17 February 2009 (EST)

Parents

Available evidence suggests that this William is the cousin of Col William Edmiston who also signed the Ebbing Springs Call. (Need the specific source for the cousin relationship). That would indicate that he is the son of Robert Edmiston who died in Rockbridge County c1750. A minority view is that he is the son of an unrelated David Edmiston (usually identified by the byname "Turk") who settled on Elk Creek near Staunton, and attended Tinkling Springs Presbyterian MH. That David is known to have immigrated to America before 1740; Its conceivable that he's related to the Edmiston's who settled on Borden's Grant about the same time. Those Edmiston's are in fact believed to have a brother "David", but most think he either remained behind in Cecil County MD, or moved to western PA. While it seems doubtful that David Edmiston of Elk Creek could be related to the Edmiston's who settled on Borden's Grant, its certainly not impossible. Additional data is needed to examine this question. Q 16:32, 17 February 2009 (EST)
