Person talk:Sierd Veenstra (1)

Sierd or Sied? [22 February 2015]

Being new to this, I did not want to change or add something without first speaking with you. Per your recommendation, I have been searching in Allefreizen for Sierd and found copies of his birth, first marriage and his second marriage. All documents refer to him as Sied. Was this actually his name? I would include a picture of the documents, but I have not yet figured out how to do this yet. I really wish that I knew Dutch so that I could read the documents. I recognize the persons names and use a translator for some of the main words. The link below is to the search results for Allefriezen.nl

His official name should be Sied, because thats in the birth-certificate. I see that further only his wedding records are with Sied (because they do have a copy of his birth-certificate), in all other registrations his name is written Sierd, even his death-certificate. Do you know from the family how he was called in daily life? My conclusion: his official name is Sied so this should be the main name and Sierd the alternate. But if he was called in daily life Sierd, and known by the family as Sierd, I would keep Sierd in the title.--Klaas 09:37, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

I have a biography from Hermanus Melles Veenstra (1880-1977) where he refers to his Grandfather as Sierd Melle's Veenstra. From this, I think that the family most likely referred to him as Sierd.--Chris 16:10, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
