Alterations [11 December 2020]

I have been checking out our places database and found that Grindleton needed some revisions. The village is now in the Ribble Valley District of Lancashire where it has been since 1974. But WeRelate wants places expressed in relation to their 1900 locatiion, bringing it back to Yorkshire. By 1900 Yorkshire was divided into 3 parts: West Riding of Yorkshire, North Riding of Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire.

Another change that occurred in 1974 was that a fair part of the West Riding was transferred to the North Riding. That did not affect Grindleton, but it could have been taken into consideration by the person who provided the information to the IGI who may not have been as aware of the exact borderlne.

Today there are more sources available online which refer directly to original registers. I suggest you take another look (through Ancestry or FindMyPast if you have a subscription) and see if this will clarify your data.
