Person talk:Nathaniel Day (21)

Erroneous Date of Death [9 January 2018]

The Date of Death is based on misinterpreted data. Nathaniel Day Sr moved with his family to Virginia and according to Kercheval's History of the Valley of Virginia, John Day assumed that his father was dead when he was in the party that pursued the Indians. Family lore says that he was scalped, but survived. Nathaniel is mentioned as serving under Captain William Preston in 1757, accompanied with his oldest son John Day. Greenbrier land records show: April 26th, 1769 - Thos. Raferty, 270 acres; Nathaniel Day, 300 acres. The First US Census, published in 1790 shows: John Day and Nathaniel Day Sr, listed as heads of family in Greenbrier County Virginia for 1782-1785. John Day and Nathaniel Day Jr. are listed in the 1786 tax list for Greenbrier County, Virginia. I have found no Will or Death Record for Nathaniel, but he is not listed with the family after they moved to Tennessee. He may have died shortly after the census was taken.--Thomastreadway 02:11, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
