Person talk:Mary Wheeler (18)

Incorrect marriage [18 March 2010]

I have been unable to locate a death record in Concord VRs on 27 Dec 1747, nor a death record for Mary Wood or Mary Meriam (except for Mary (Cooper) Meriam). Nor can I find a marriage record for Mary Wood to anybody. Source:Wheeler Families of Old Concord, Massachusetts only shows Mary marrying Jacob Wood, as does Source:Wheeler, Albert Gallatin. Genealogical and Encyclopedic History of the Wheeler Family in America and Source:Holmes, Clayton Wood. Genealogy of the Lineal Descendants of William Wood Who Settled in Concord, Mass. in 1638.

There is a record in Concord VRs, p. 27, "John Miriam of Cambridge, & Mary Wheeler of Concord, were Joyned in marriage by ye same Minister November 14th 1788". Given Mary's birth in Sept 1673, she would have just turned 15, and this is extremely unlikely to refer to her. Also, Source:Paige, Lucius R. History of Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1630-1877, p. 2:609 gives a genealogy of the Cambridge Meriams, and John and Mary Meriam had children spanning a period from 1689 (consistent with a marriage in 1688) to 1713, and Deacon John Meriam d. 1727. This would indicate this Mary is not the same one who married Jacob Wood in 1697, and was married to him until his death in 1723.

Therefore, I am removing this Mary from the marriage to Family:John Merriam and Mary Wheeler (2) and removing the death date of 27 Dec 1747. The William Wood Genealogy cited above explicitly says Mary's death record has not been found. --Jrich 18:40, 18 March 2010 (EDT)
