Person talk:Leysebet Janse (1)

Changes made Nov 2012 [27 November 2012]

I have made several changes to this page. First I have changed Leysebet Janse name by dropping the Claeszen and putting Janse as the surname. (I have no idea how to change the name in the page title. Can someone help with that?) The reason being that there is no evidence of Leysebet adopting her father's patronymic as a surname or even using the Romeyn surname that her brothers adopted.

Second I removed two incorrect marriages. The first was a marriage to a Christoffel Jans. This mistake is derived from Bergen's Register where Bergen seems to have confused/conflated Christoffel Jansen and Christoffel Schaers(Schaets). The second marriage that I removed was to a Jan Claessen which seems to be a conflation of this Leysebet Janse with her mother who had the same name.

The third change that I made was to remove the incorrect death date. The date that was given for her actually belongs to her husband.--Renee Dauven 14:46, 27 November 2012 (EST)

Changed name of page [27 November 2012]

I think I figured out how to change the name of the page and have attempted to do so.--Renee Dauven 15:06, 27 November 2012 (EST)

You did rename the page correctly. In addition to renaming the Person page, you will also need to rename her Family page.

Also, when you removed the two incorrect marriages, it left these two family pages:

If they are completely inaccurate, you will want to mark the Family page and Person pages for Christoffel Jans and Jan Claessen for Speedy Delete. If you have any questions at all, let me know. --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:25, 27 November 2012 (EST)

Jennifer, that was quick! While I was making notes on the other pages, you were responding to comments on the person talk page.

  1. I have changed the name of the family page for Willem and Leysebet.
  2. I am uncertain whether the other pages qualify for speedy delete as none of the individual's involved are still living. Is there a listing for "whenever it can be done" category?
  3. Also I was uncertain reading the directions for speedy delete what exactly is meant by the "page's text box". Am I correct in thinking it means the box similiar to this one which appears when you select "edit" from the left-hand menu column?
  4. And finally, do I need to put the delete template on the marriage page and the individual's page also? And what happens to the page that was originally for Leysebet Claeszen? Will deleting that link now delete the corrected page?--Renee Dauven 16:59, 27 November 2012 (EST)
I'm a bit unsure what you mean by #2 above. Speedy Delete is used for any page where a user proposes it be deleted, but can't delete themselves. If you were to create a page, and you were the only watcher, you could delete your own page by clicking on More>Delete. Pages with additional watchers must be deleted by a user with admin rights. This is why pages are marked with the Speedy Delete template - users with admin rights review this list and delete the pages. Pages for living people are not the only candidates for SD.
Re: #3, yes, you are correct. The text box is the large main box underneath the 9 formatting icons.
The SD template needs to be placed on any page you'd like deleted. So, if the Person and Family pages both need to be deleted, they will both need to have the template. The page that was originally for Leysebet Claeszen was "redirected" to the newly named page (so it just acts as a pointer). You don't need to delete redirect pages.
When you place the Speedy Delete template, you don't need to also leave a message on the talk page. This would just create another page that would need to be deleted. The description you leave in the template should be sufficient. Honestly, you are working here on pages that are sorely in need of cleanup, and I'm excited to see a user interested in these early Dutch immigrants! I focus on Dutch after 1811, but dabble once in a while on these early immigrants as well. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to leave a message on my talk page. --Jennifer (JBS66) 17:50, 27 November 2012 (EST)
