Joshua Underwood - Parents/etc [24 March 2019]

As noted, the Underwood Families of America source applies the 1731 Sherborn death record of Joshua Underwood to the son of Joshua Underwood and Mercy Fairbanks. However, the text of the death record implies that he was not known to the record keeper "Joshua whose surname was called Underwood." Also, in the probate of Joshua Sr's estate, the children's portion of the real estate is divided in half in 1737, one portion going to daughter Mary Jones, and the other going to son Joshua, who is referred to in an accompanying bond as Joshua Underwood, blacksmith of Holliston. Hannah Wheelock married Joshua Underwood of Holliston just a year later, and when he died the probate records refer to him as a blacksmith. I can't see that there is any evidence that there was a Joshua in the family of Jonathan Underwood and Ruth Holland, or that there was a son of Jonathan, brother of Joshua, Sr. as proposed in the Underwood Families of America.--Mcc150 21:03, 24 March 2019 (UTC)
