Person talk:John Abbott (6)

John Abbots's birthplace [13 February 2015]

Are you sure John Abbott was born in St. Ives, Huntingdonshire? There is a St. Ives in Cornwall, not that far from Falmouth. It is quite a big place.

It appears that St Ives, Huntingdonshire is correct. The birth is recorded in the Quaker records for Huntingdonshire, and his 1794 marriage record (in the Quaker records for Cornwall) identifies him as "John Abbott, son of Samuel Abbott of Ives in the County of Huntingdon, Miller & Baker and Hannah his Wife, both deceased". Since the Quakers were persecuted (at times, anyway), it doesn't seem surprising that he may have moved from one county to another.--DataAnalyst 23:36, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
