Civil War [19 September 2011]

Which regiment did Choice Kirby serve in? We're trying to mark all of the Civil War veterans here on WeRelate. Thanks! --Amy (Ajcrow) 08:50, 18 September 2011 (EDT)

He appears in the U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914, which I looked at through ancestry.com. Under Company/Regiment, it says what looks like "1 Drgs K." According to Kirby Kin by Mary D. Quarles, Choice also served under General Phil Kearny in the Mexican War.--Becky 18:31, 19 September 2011 (EDT)

That enlistment record is actually his Mexican War enlistment. "Descriptive and Historical Register of Enlisted Soldiers of the Army, ... for During the War with Mexico , Under the Acts Approved January 12th and February 11, 1847." It looks like he enlisted 27 July 1847, deserted 4 August 1847, and was discharged in August 1848. "1 Drgs K" is probably 1st Dragoons, Company K. If you happen to find anything about his Civil War service, please post it either here or on his page. Thanks! -- Amy 18:47, 19 September 2011 (EDT)
