Marriage to Lucas Stevense van Voorhees [13 December 2013]

According to 2000 publication by Florence Christoph, Catherine van Dyck was not married to Lucas Stevense van Voorhees. See last paragraph of the following citation:

Christoph, Florence A. Van Voorhees Family in America: The First Six Generations. (Baltimore, MD: Van Voorhees Association, 2000), pp. 2, 4, 5.

"Lucas Stevense van Voorhees; born circa 1650 at Netherlands; married first Catherine Hansen van Norstrand, daughter of Hans Jansen van Norstrand and jenneken Gerrets van Loon, circa 1673 at Flatlands, Kings Co., NY; married second Jannetje Minnes daughter of Minne Johannes Mineola and Rensie Fedders, 26 Jan 1689 at Ref. Ch., Flatbush, Kings Co., NY; died after 1724 at Flatlands, Kings Co., NY. He signs a deed dated 28 1724 transferring land to his son and nephew. [Stokes, "The Van Voorhees Family;" pg. 52; O. Voorhees, "Genealogy of the Van Voorhees Family," Oscar says Lucas died the same day that he transferred the land but gives no source for this information and none has been found.]

He is listed as a member of the Flatlands Reformed Church in 1677 and was an elder in 1711. He took the oath of allegiance in Flatlands in 1687 as Luycas Stevense, stating that he had been here for 27 years. ["Documentary History of New York," Vol. 1, pg. 662.]

In the will of his brother-in-law John Kiersam dated 1705 he is listed as Lucas "Stevensen." Most records for him will be found under the surname "Stevensen." Lucas Stevensen van Voorhees was still alive on 28 Dec 1724 when he transferred one half of a tract of land on Millstone River to his son Abraham, at which time he was described as a resident of Flatlands, Kings Co., NY.

He is not the Lucas Stevensen who married Catharine van Dyk. She married Gerret Keteltas, 22 Oct 1709, as Catherine Stephenson, at the baptisms of her children she is listed as Catherine van Dyke. The names of the children of Catherine van Dyck and Lucas Stevenson show no evidence of a relationship to the van Voorhees family, nor do the sponsors."--Frank 15:23, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
