Facts and Events
About 1926 went to New Orleans to go to school and lived with her stepmother's brother, Thomas C. Carraway, where she met Thomas Jefferson Coker who was boarding there. Thomas Coker Jr. says they referred to the Carraways as Uncle Tommy and Aunt Birdie. William Coker Sr. tells a story about Tommy & Birdie's daughter Nellie: her husband went to prison for shooting and killing a man because the man's dog was "pooping in his yard." Wilmoth's father refused to come to her wedding, and apparently he had told her to "stay away from that Coker man." (Did he know him from Franklin Co. where Wilmoth graduated High School?) This rift lasted for years, so her children barely knew their grandpa Baggett. ! 1.Family Records. |
