At his residence in Unadilla Forks, Otsego Co., N. Y., Sept. 1st, 1868, Deacon William Utter, in the 86th year of his age.
He united by baptism with the 1st Brookfield Seventh-day Baptist Church in 1806. He was chosen a deacon in 1813, and invited to improve his gifts in public prayer, exhortation, or preaching. He took a deep interest in the upbuilding of the cause of Christ, at home and abroad. He was very liberal with the means he had in general charities and in sustaining the church of which he was a member. In an uninterrupted membership of nearly sixty-two years, he has endeared himself to his fellow Christians, and won the respect and esteem of all around him. He will be greatly missed.
He viewed death with the utmost composure. He expressed himself as feeling prepared and willing to die. He suffered much during the last few months of his life from a
dropsical affection; but his death was peaceful. "The fathers, where are they?" Bro. Utter leaves a wife and a large family of children. Their loss, we have good reason to think, is his eternal gain.
