Birth place is listed on his death certificate. Also lists mother's maiden name as Jenkins.

There is a W.F. Stewart listed with James and Martha in the 1880 Eastland County, Texas Census as age 6/12 born in Jan., son, born Texas. If this is Will, then he would have been born in 1879 instead of 1882, as his tombstone says.

Was known to be a mean drunk.

To get to Freeman Cemetery: From Conroe, take Hwy 105 East to FM3083, go through "Four Corners" turn left onto FM1485--cemetery will be on the left.

Worked for Delta Land & Timber Company as a logging contractor. Owned cattle, hogs, and 240 acres of land.

Will was reported to have been an alcoholic, and a mean one. This would explain why he is buried in Freeman Cemetery, away from the rest of the family. Interesting Texana is buried in the Stewart section of Conroe Memorial, though.

Listed in the 1900 Montgomery County, Texas Census. Lot #667-673. 21 years old, born December, 1878 in Texas. Married for 0 years. Listed with wife, Texana, mother Martha, and brother Robert. Father from Tennessee, mother from Texas.

Listed in the 1910 Montgomery County, Texas Census. Lot #249-252. 30 years old, born in Texas, both parents born in Texas. Married once for 10 years. Occupation, Farmer.

Listed in the 1920 Montgomery County, Texas Census, Enumerated Feb. 12, 1830 (I think), Precinct 2, District 7, Page 14A, Dwelling 242, Household 243 as William F. Stewart, age 40, born TX, parents born TN, Farmer. With Texana, Frank, Lewis, Virgie, James, Sadie M., Rosa, and Bertha.

Listed in the 1930 Montgomery County, Texas Census, Enumerated April 24, 1930, Conroe District 12, Precinct 7, Sheet 11A, 304, 225, 270-1 as William Stewart, age 56, married, 21 years old when first married, born TX, father born TX, mother born TX, Laborer-tie maker, hasn't served in military. Listed with wife Anna, 46 years old, 18 years old when first married, born TX, mother born TX, father born TX. Daughter Bertha, 11 years old. Also in dwelling is James Stewart, 21 years old, widower, married at 18, laborer at the saw mill, has not served in the military.

Also listed in the 1930 Montgomery County, Texas Census, Precinct 7, District 13, Page 19B with Frank Stewart. Frank's 29 years old, married since age 19, born TX, parents born TX, Laborer at the Saw Mill, no prior military service. Listed with Wife Annie B., age 28, married since age 18; son Alain L.(I think), age 8; son Ida, age 7; and father Will, age 50, married, with no job. This is confusing, since there is also a listing for Will with Texana and Bertha in this census...However, this part of the census was enumerated June 22, and the part with Will and Texana was done April 24. Maybe Will moved out during that time? They live next door to an Alain L. Brown...not sure who he is, but Frank's son bears his name....

According to Marshall (John Marshall Stewart, Aunt Bettie and Papa's son), "Uncle Will was the meanest old man I ever knew." Anyone who knew Marshall knows that's saying a lot.

A story Ronnie (Florence's son) heard from Florence, was that once, when Will and Papa were young adults, they got into a fight, and Will cut Papa's throat from ear to ear. Papa pulled a gun on Will and told him they weren't going to do things that way, and walked away, keeping the gun on Will until he was out of sight.
