Person:William Standifer (1)

He served in the American Revolution with the Virginia State Militia and is listed with the "Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution" by Gwathay. Although listed with the Virginia State Militia, he is with a company of the Knox City Regiment, Hamilton District Territory South of Ohio. This area later became the State of Tennessee. In 1780 he was appointed an Ensign of the State Militia. In 1781 he again enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Served on Superior Court, Knox County, Tennessee 1795 Age 37

He was a Justice of Peace, 1779 - 1780 Knox County, Tennessee

He served as a Commissioner in County Government. 1801 - 1808 Anderson County, Tennessee

The Will of William Standifer

State of Tennessee Marion County Court August Term 1822 Of William Standifer, Deced. Jno. Kelly Clk. Registered October 22, 1826. "

In the Name of God Amen.

I, William Standifer of the County of Marion and State of Tennessee being sick and weak of body but of sound mind discerning memory for which I thank God and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous of disposing of all such worldly substance as it hath pleased God to bless me with, I will and bequeath the same in manner and form following that is to say I give and bequeath to my loving wife Jemima Standifer all the household furniture and stock with four negroes, that is Sarah, Calvin, Moses, Becky, To have and to hold the same until her decease or marriage at her death I give and bequesth Sarah, Calvin, Moses to my son Alfred Standifer. Becky, she may dispose of as she thinks proper and I give my wife Jemima Standifer all land north and east of the cross fence now running through my farm except one half of the apple orchard for my son Alfred Standefer and two acres of land for him to have and not to interfere with said Jemima Standifer buildings in case the above named Neger Sarah should have another child I give said Calvin to my two grandsons Samuel Terry Standifer and William Scott Standifer and not otherwise. I give to my son Alfred Standifer all the tract of land where I now live containing about one hundred seventy acres at my wife's decease or marriage. I give a man named Blackburn to my wife Jemima Standifer and my son Alfred Standifer jointly between them until her decease then said negro to be sold and the money divided between my four sons James Standifer, Luke Standifer, Isaac Standifer and Samuel Standifer.

I give and bequeath to my son James Standifer, negro man named Manuel. I give and bequeath to my son Luke Standifer, negro woman and her named Sallie and her child named Levi. I give and bequeath Fannie Hendrix a negro boy named John. I want sold out of the price of said negro, I want my three daughters to have fifty dollars each, that is, Polly Griffith, Naomi & Savannah Yarnell. I give my two grandsons twenty five dollars each, that is Luke C. Standifer and Jesse H. Standifer. The balance of the price of said negro I give to my wife Jemima Standifer and my sons, that is, James Standifer, Luke Standifer, Isaac Standifer, Samuel Standifer & Alfred Standifer. I want all my debts paid out of the price of said land. I give and bequeath to Clarissa Harlow Standifer, my grandaughter, a negro girl named Dice. Said Clarissa Harlow Standifer is to have said negro in the tenth year of her age. If said Clarissa H. Standifer should decease before she should marry, I want said division equally divided between my heirs herein named. I give and bequeath to Jane Standifer five dollars and lastly, I duly contribute and appoint my friend Luke Hendrix and Isaac Standifer, executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the thirteenth day of April in the year of our Lord 1826.
