- In TAG, Vol. 27, p. 164, 168, Jacobus places William in Family:Michael Spencer and Isobel Robbins (1) as the only family in which he would fit, but "with great misgiving", and speculates he isn't related to any of the "Four Spencer Brothers". Since Michael d. 1652, William would just about have to be posthumous to make much sense, and even then he would have been 34 at the time of his marriage. On top of that, the Haddam records call him William Jr. suggesting he is younger than the son of Gerard who is thought to have been born about 1656. He buys property in Saybrook 13 Jan 1686 suggesting he was born before 1665 to be of legal age.
