William Kerr Scott 
   MEBANE — William Kerr Scott, 49, of the Hawfields community in Alamance County, died a sudden death of natural causes on Friday, March 30, 2007, at his home.
   

A native of the Hawfields community, Kerr was born on February 28, 1958. He was the son of former governor and first lady of North Carolina, Robert and Jessie Rae Scott, and the grandson of Governor William Kerr Scott. He attended Woodberry Forest in Orange, Virginia and North Carolina State University.

   He is survived by his parents, Bob and Jessie Rae Scott; his sister, Meg Scott Phipps and husband, Robert, of the Hawfields community; sister, Mary Scott of the Hawfields community; sister, Susan Scott Sutton and husband, Louis, of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania; sister, Jan Scott of Durham; nieces and nephews, Christy Cagle, Andrew Cagle, Scott Sutton and his wife, Sarah, Susan Sutton, Elisabeth Sutton, Margaret Phipps, and Rob Phipps.
   A private family service was held at 1 p.m. April 3, at Hawfields Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Curtis Fussell. A tribute to Kerr was given by Dr. Louis Sutton on behalf of the family.
   The family is greatly appreciative of those who have shown their love for Kerr and their concern for the family. They are thankful for the assistance of the McClure Funeral Service during this time.
