Facts and Events
Name William Scott
Gender Male
Christening[1] 12 Feb 1780 Fowlis Wester, Perthshire, Scotland
Marriage 4 Nov 1804 Fowlis Wester, Perthshire, Scotlandto Margaret McIntosh

William Scott was baptised on 12th February 1780 at Fowlis Wester in Perthshire. He was the son of Janet Allan and her husband John Scott, a gamekeeper. The family lived at Milton of Abercairny, to the west of the parish, suggesting that William’s father probably worked for the Abercairny estate there.

On 4th November 1804, aged 24, William married Margaret McIntosh at Fowlis Wester. They went on to have ten children baptised at Fowlis Wester between 1805 and 1823.

William’s mother died in 1822 and his father died in 1826.

William followed his father to become a gamekeeper on the Abercairny estate. He was still working as gamekeeper there in 1833, being mentioned in a list of gamekeepers published in a local newspaper. No later records for him have yet been found. Deaths and burials were not recorded in Fowlis Wester until the start of civil registration in 1855. However, it seems likely that he died sometime between 1833 and 1841, as he has not been found in the 1841 census, but his wife Margaret was living with their daughter at Kinnoull, near Perth. Margaret died at Kinnoull in 1843.

Baptisms in the year 1780 / Febr[uary] 12: William to John [“McEwen” crossed out] Scott, Miltown Aber[cairny] & Janet Allan

The following entry was a baptism on the same day where the father’s name was John McEwen, which appears to explain the correction to the father’s surname on this entry.
