    William C. J. Rothrock was the eldest of three known children of George Rothrock (1771-1861) and his second wife, Winifred Massey Rothrock (1765-1802), who married c1795 in presumably Virginia.

    William had the rank or title of Colonel, but it is not known how he won or was awarded it.

    William married Mary Ruffin (or Rose?) Taliaferro (1809-1859) on 24 Jan 1826 at Bath, Caroline County, Virginia. William and Mary were the parents of nine known children, namely:

    1. Elizabeth (Bettie) W. Rothrock Bower (c1827-c1865)
    2. Allaway F. Rothrock (1830-1830)
    3. William Oscar Rothrock (1831-1833)
    4. Ellen Rothrock Crutchfield (c1833-1859)
    5. Mary William Rothrock (1837-???)
    6. Champe T. Rothrock (c1838-c1867)
    7. William H. Rothrock (c1840-1854)
    8. Lucy Taylor Rothrock (c1845-???)
    9. Georgia Carmichael Rothrock Bowen (1847-1921)

    In 1850 William (a clerk), Mary, Champe, William H., Ellen, Mary W., Lucy T. and Georgia (all born Virginia) were living with William's father, George Rothrock at Fredericksburg, Virginia.
