Samuel R. born 1853 and Authur Goodloe born 1864-five Daughters-Frances M. born 1845- Nancy L. born 1839-Martha C. born 1843-Sarah I. Born 1856-Cynthia B. born 1859. As the years went by the Rikard brothers family's grew to adult hood had families of their own, However as the 1860's drew near the clouds of war lay on the horizon.The Brothers Robert, John and William began expressing their beliefs of anti session and in preserving the union, however it was not to be. War was declared and the Rikard families became entangled-brother against brother- cousin against cousin. Robert being the oldest and was said to be the most out spoken against secession moving his family behind union lines to Vienna Illinois, however John Carlyle, Robert'soldest son remained in Franklin County. John Carlyle's oldest son William Thomas would go towar. Serving in the Co. A of the 1st Alabama Cav. USA-John Rikard the second of the threebrothers would be killed by Southern Recruiting agents in 1862-63 while evading conscription, however his son Samuel would be conscripted into the 5th Alabama Inf. Co. A-William R.(Buck) remained on his farm, but would see three sons go to war. William's oldest sonJohn Wesley enlisted in the General P.D. Roddey's 4th Alabama Cav. CSA-sons William Pinkney and Henry F. joined the 64th Illinios Inf. Yates Sharpshooter at Glenn Mississippi. All those that remained in Franklin Co. suffered the pains and hard ships of war from both Rebels and Union alike. In 1871 both William R. and Nancy Jane( John's widow) filed claims to recover losses from the Union Army. Robert never returned to Alabama and is believed to have died and was buried in Illinios-John's family moved to Mississippi and on westward, John is buried in Hovator Cem. near Crooked Oak Al. - William R. died in April of 1884, his wife Fannie died in March of 1887-both are buried on a ridge top over looking the family farm two miles west of Frankfort AL. William's family spread over North Alabama. All Rikard/ Rickards in North Alabama are Descended from the Rikard/ Rickard brothers of Newberry South Carolina.
