Biography

William Thomas Middleton was born 1 November 1884 in Muscatine, Muscatine County, Iowa. He was married (1) 25 October 1913/4 at Sterling, Whiteside Cty., Illinois to Gladys Williams, who was the mother of his only child. He married (2) 1924/5 Ella Virginia Kratz (Hite). Gladys, his first wife, died 4 July 1929 in Hollywood California. William ran a Coca Cola bottling works in Sterling. Ella died 2 January 1962 in Sterling, Illinois. William died 8 July 1978 in Sterling, Whiteside Cty., Illinois, and is buried there.Inherited research from Ruth Ellen Middleton Hintz / Descendants of Alfred Purcell by Keith M. Street. Obit. WILLIAM T. MIDDLETON, a prominent Sterling business man for over 50 years as the Coca Cola Bottler and Distributor for the Sterling area, died early Saturday morning at Community General Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Middleton will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling with Rev. Paul W. Anhalt, assistant pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating, with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Middleton was born on Nov. 1, 1894 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Lydia Purcell Middleton. He was united in marriage to Ella Virginia Kratz who preceded him on January 2, 1962. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church; was a life member of the Sterling Elks Club 1918; was in the Hall of Fame for Trap Shooters for the State of Illinois; past president of the Illinois Trap Shooters Association; past member of the Board of Directors of the Central National Bank; was honored in 1972 by the Coca Cola, Inc. for 50 years of service and was an honorary life member of the Rock River Country Club. Mr. Middleton is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W. C. (Joyce) Brick of Sterling; and one granddaughter, Mrs. George (Judi) Sanders of Columbus, Ohio. His wife, Ella Virginia and one brother preceded him in death.
