William Mc Kinley was born in Juniata Co., PA and he was a second cousin of President William Mc Kinley. When he was still a boy his parents moved to OH and there he was reared. During the early forties moved to Greenfield Township, LaGrange Co., IN, where for one year he rented a farm. That was before the old Plank Road to Fort Wayne, IN was built. His business in early days was freighting and teaming to Fort Wayne, IN. He returned to Ohio and in the fall of 1862 he moved to Jackson Township, DeKalb Co., IN and remained there until 1887, when he became a resident of Butler Township, DeKalb Co., IN, and remained there until his death in 1896. He was first married to Mary Shinniman, and they had four children, Isabella, Benjamin, Adam and Mary. After the death of his first wife he was married to Sarah Romine, born in Johnson Township, LaGrange Co., IN and they became the parents of the following children: Ross, James, Samuel (Who was drowned at the age of Twelve Years) Thomas, William, Stephen, Almeela and Amanda (twins), Jane, Sarah, Alexander, and Elic. He held several local offies.
