Disambiguation

NOT to be confused with Johannes Leitner brother of this Johann Wilhelm (William) Leitner. Some researchers have confused the two siblings. Marriage records show that it was Johannes Leitner that married Esther Franciscus, not this William Leitner as some have surmised.

Notes

William Leitner, [his immigrant name was John Wilhelm Leitner], appears to have been married twice. His first wife appears to have been Anna Catherine Emerick (1712-1743), they appear to have had two children, Simon Leitner (b. 1738) and a daughter Catrina, who was mentioned in the will of William's first father-in-law, Johann Michael Emerick (1682-1744), as follows:

And I will that all my children shall have equal share except my deceased daughter's child Catrina Leitner, I give her ten pounds because they took the child to them.

This daughter Catrina appears to have likely died young before 1750, as William had a daughter Catharina with his second wife, born in 1750. In addition, daughter Catrina was not listed in the baptismal records of Rev. John Casper Stoever, referenced below.

William's second wife appears to have been Maria Elisabetha (maiden name unknown), who appears to have been the mother of the remainder of William's children. Simon (b. 1738), Anna Maria (b. 1744), Juliana (b. 1746), George Daniel (b. 1747), John Jacob (b. 1750) and Catarina Leitner (b. 1752) were all baptized by Rev. John Casper Stoever, their baptisms were recorded in his journals and are listed in several publications including "Early Lutheran Baptisms and Marriages in Southeastern Pennsylvania", The Records of Rev. John Casper Stoever from 1730 to 1779.
