Keffer, William Alfred, 76, of Goldbond, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. Born in Craig County on June 20, 1928, he was a son of the late Rex and Ethel Hypes Keffer. Bill was a retired game warden with the Virginia Game Commission, a member of Level Green Christian Church and Pembroke Lodge No. 334 A.F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bertie Mae Ratliff. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Nana Keffer; a son, Steve Keffer of Pearland, Texas; a daughter, Jennifer K. Tickle of Pembroke; a stepson, Randy Bowen of Piney Flats, Tenn.; stepgrandchildren, Brittani Bowen and Brandon Bowen; two brothers, Alton Keffer of Blacksburg and Roy Keffer of Newport; and a sister, Eileen K. Averhart of Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Level Green Christian Church in Craig County, with Pastor Mike Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Level Green Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.
