William F. “Bill” Jones Jr., of Brookings, passed away Aug. 31, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center in Louisville, Colo., after suffering a sudden stroke. After graduating from high school in Oregon, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was part of the Armed Guard of the Pacific during World War II. Bill moved to Colorado where he was a general contractor and craftsman, building custom homes until semi-retiring and moving to Brookings in 1977. He continued building homes and custom cabinets for more than 34 years in Brookings. Bill was a quality craftsman and found great satisfaction in his profession. Bill also loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. Recently, he moved to Loveland, Colo. to be closer to family. Survivors include his sister, Ella Slaughter; Marcella Jones, his former wife of 64 years; daughters . . . . three granddaughters and one great-grandson. A graveside service with military honors was held Sept. 5, in Colorado, and a Celebration of Life service followed Sept. 6. Submitted by the family.
