Facts and Events
According to Orris Hicks N5oh@@aol.com, Anson, first wife Rosanna, and son Higah were living near Rosanna's family in Lauderdale County, MS. Anson moved the family to TX when Rosanna was pregnant with their second child, but she was apparently unhappy there, so he brought her and Higah back to MS, and their daughter Mary Euginia was born there. Anson returned to TX, and never returned. According to Orris and Edman Hicks, in early 1860, Anson Sr. and 2 slaves were digging a well, with Anson in the well digging and the slaves hauling the dirt to the surface in a large bucket. A pocket of poisonous gas was encountered. The slaves attempted to haul Anson to the surface, but he fell off the bucket when he was almost to the top. He died before help arrived. |
