William Haywood was baptised on 31st January 1808 at Rolleston in Nottinghamshire, son of a shoe maker named John Haywood and his wife Sarah. His next sighting is on 14th June 1834, age 26, when he married Ann Bonser at East Stoke, just south of Rolleston on the opposite bank of the River Trent. She was from East Stoke and was also 26 when they married. She already had two children: Eliza aged eight and George aged one.

Sadly, William appears to have died just over a month after their marriage. He was buried back at Rolleston on 29th July 1834, aged 26. His burial record notes that he had lived at 'Stoke' which is how East Stoke was often described at the time.

Ann was obviously pregnant at the time, and had a son later in the year. However, she too died in 1834, presumably either giving birth to her son or shortly afterwards. She was buried in Nottingham on 7th September 1834. Her three children were brought up at East Stoke by her parents, who had the baby baptised on 2nd November 1834 at East Stoke, giving him the name William. Young William's baptism record tells us that William had been a shoe maker. Ann's three children appear in the 1841 census living with their grandparents at East Stoke.

This baptism has been linked to the William Haywood who married Ann Bonser at East Stoke in 1834 on the basis that when he died he was buried at Rolleston (which is just north of East Stoke) but his abode was given as Stoke, showing a connection back to Rolleston. The adult William was a shoemaker, which was also this John's trade - it may not be quoted on William's baptism, but it was on William's younger sister Charlotte's baptism. Needs to be confirmed at Nottinghamshire Archives.
