MEYERSDALE, Pa. - William R. Getty, 49, Monroe, Mich., former resident of Meyersdale, died Wednesday in Michigan. Born at Conneaut Lake, he was a son of Mrs. Belle (Spence) Getty, Meyersdale, and the late Dr. William E. Getty. Mr. Getty graduated from Meyersdale High School in 1932 and attended Ohio State University. He was an outstanding basketball player in Cumberland and Meyersdale and was well known in this area through his connections with Deer Valley Recreation Area and the Confluence Hotel. He was employed as a purchasing agent for the Michigan Gas Company. Also surviving are his widow, Jean (Middleton) Getty; four children, Michael Getty, with the Air Force in Germany; and Thomas and Misses Linda and Leslie Getty, all at home; a brother, 0. G. Getty, Meyersdale; nd two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Lepley, Cumberland, and Mrs. Beachy Reicht, Meyersdale. The body will be at the Price Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today. Services will be conducted there Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Marcus Yohe and burial will be in Somerset Memorial Park. The family asks contributions be made to the Cancer Society.
