Family scrapbook says "William Dempsey, reared in Dublin City, Ireland, at the age of 26 married a French lady and they boarded a ship for the New Continent and made their home in Fincastle, VA".

I have a William Dempsey born 1750 in Virginia married to a Jane Dubartis 1740 with children John, Andrew, Hugh, Absolom, Judtih, Dubartis, Lucy and Mark. I have further information on Dubartis Absolom born 14 Jan 1793 of Botetourt, Virginia who married Mary Alfriend Marshall and had a children who ended up in Logan Co., Kentucky.
