He was born about 1720 and died in 1787 at about age 67. At about age 20 he married Ann Spink on February 12, 1740. She was the daughter of Captain Ishmael Spink.

William Comstock of East Greenwhich was admitted as a freeman in May 1750. The census of 1774 gives William Comstock of West Greenwhich: "persons above age 16, five males and six females."

One William Comstock was a first Lieutenant in Elliot's Regiment of State Artillery according to the war records of Rhode Island.

William Comstock was a deputy from West Greenwhich, Rhode Island on May 17, 1787.

The will of William Comstock of West Greenwhich, dated Friday January 12, 1787, recorded Tuesday, March 20, 1787, gives to son Thomas and daughters Deliverance Matteson, Anne Arnold, and Sarah Olin, 70-80 acres of land (provio that Deliverance Matteson to give her daughter Esther Arnold $40 and to her son, John, 60 acres). Half of the house was given to John and Elizabeth; to grandson Aaron and daughter, Elizabeth the rest of the homestead farm; to sons, Ishmael and David, $1 each; to loving wife Anna Comstock the rest of the personal estate; Anna Comstock, executrix.

Children: Thomas, Mercy, Deliverance, Elizabeth, Anna, Sarah, Ishmael, Lydia, David, John, Susannah, and Gideon.

From an application to the Sons of the American Revolution, made by Bernard Albert Harrigan (4th great-grandson), dated 23 Feb 1954:

William Comstock served as a Lieutenant in Col. Robert Elliott's Regiment of Artillery of the Rhode Island Brigade, January 2, 1777, to June 10, 1777, then resigned. He had previous service as First Lieutenant in Col. Elliott's Regiment of the Rhode Island Brigade, in Captain Samuel Sweet's Company. Was chosen Lieutenant December 23, 1776.
