Dr. Wilfred J. NowlinS4, 57, prominent local physician died early Thursday morning , Aug 11 1960 in the Mennonite Hospital, Bloomington. Because of a chronic heart ailment, from which he had suffered the past two years, Dr. Wilfred had been forced to curtail his medical activities recently. His passing is a decided loss to the community.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Stensel Funeral Home with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ray McCord, O. A. Peithman, Richard Drake, Leon Mason, Marshall Jones, E. R. Rinehart, Dale Bealor, Don Busey and Stanley Hamman.

He was born in Des Moines IA, September 26, 1902 and moved with his parents, J. A. and Emma Rau Nowlin, to this city when six months of age. He graduated from Franklin School and Moore Township High School; then entered the University of Illinois receiving his degree in 1922. He immediately enrolled in the University of Illinois School of Medicine and received his degree in 1926. In September 1929 he formed a partnership with his brother, Dr. Owen W. E. Nowlin, which he continued to operate until his death.

On June 15, 1937 he married Neva Whitford Jones, a former teacher in Moore High School. She survives along with a daughter, Elizabeth Jane, a junior at DePauw University, Greencastle IN; his mother, Mrs. Emma Nowlin, all of this city; and his brother, Dr. Owen of LaMesa CA. Two nieces: Mrs. Sara Brown of Albuquerque NM; and Mrs. Pat Fuller of Miami Heights FL; and a nephew, Owen Nowlin of Olmsted Falls OH; and eight great-nieces and nephews also survive.

FARMER CITY - (PNS) - Dr. Wilfred J Nowlin, 58, a doctor in Farmer City for more than 30 years, died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday at Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington. He had been ill with a heart ailment for about a year and had been hospitalized since Saturday.

He was taken to Stensel's Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. He will be buried in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Floral contributions may be made to the Farmer City Community Hospital and Canvalescent Home Fund.

Friends may call Friday evening at the funeral home.

Dr. Nowlin was born Sept. 26, 1902 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a son of Dr. J. A and Emma Rau Nowlin, who moved with their family to Farmer City in 1908. He married Neva Whitford Jones in Chicago on June 15, 1937. She survives her husband.

Dr. Nowlin received his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 1924. He graduated from the school of medicine and surgery at the U of I in 1926 and then took his internship at a hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. He also did post graduate work at the University of Chicago before serving at a Philadelphia hospital.

Dr. Nowlin returned to Farmer City in 1929 to become a partner iwth his brother, Dr. Owen W. E. Nowlin, who now practices medicine in La Mesa, Calif.

Also surviving him are his mother, Mrs. Emma Nowlin of Farmer City and his daughter, Elizabeth Jane Nowlin, who is a sophomore at DePauw University at Greencastle, Ind.

Dr. Nowlin had been a member of the American Medical Society for years, a member of the medical staff of Mennonite and St. Joseph Hospitals in Bloomington, a member of the Methodist Church board and a member of the Farmer City Board of Education, He was also a past president of the Farmer City Kiwanis Cluc and a trustee of the Wood Lawn Country Club.

He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge in Farmer City, as well as a member of the Bloomington Consistory Lodge.

Dr. Nowlin was a charter member of the American Academy of General Practice.
