Neva W. J. NowlinS3, 98, died March 13, 1999 at the LeRoy Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services were held at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Church or the Public Library Association, both in Farmer City. She was born October 9, 1900 at Adams County, the d/o Daniel W. and Laura Elizabeth Downing Whitford. She married Dr. Claude Jones. He preceded her in death. She later married Dr. Wilfred J. Nowlin (1902-1960) in 1937 in Chicago. He died August 11, 1960. Her daughter, Elizabeth Cooper, Peoria, survives along with granddaughter, Mary Beth Cooper, Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one brother and three sisters. Mrs. Nowlin received her bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Illinois; in 1932 she came to Farmer City as an English teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Farmer City, Illinois; charter member and trustee of the Clark Foundation for 20 years; and received the distinguished citizen's award of the Farmer City Chamber of Commerce. She was a founder of the Sigma Omicron Chapter Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Illinois. She was active in several community organizations and was a Farmer City community leader. References
