Wiley Corry Smith was born 28 June 1898 in Rockwood, Roane County, Tennessee. He was the youngest child of William Wiley Smith (1848-1924) and Mary Emaline Montgomery (1852-1917). After college, he was the Head Football Manager for the University of Tennessee in 1924. Wiley Smith was an Attorney and served as District Attorney General in Hamilton County, Tennessee from 1946-1958. He was also a life-long best friend of Tennessee native Estes Kefauver who served as a Democrat in the United States House of Representatives, United States Senate and was the Democrat Party's nominee for Vice President as a running mate of Adlai Stevenson in 1956.
