ObituaryVirgil Smith Rites Will Be On MondayVirgil Smith, 70, Corvallis native, died Thursday at his home.The son of Charles M. and Addie Custer Smith, he was born 14 Sep 1897, at Corvallis where he lived until 1911 when he moved with his family to Monrovia, Calif. Following his graduation from Monrovia High School, he returned to Corvallis where he attended Oregon State University. During World War I, he served in the U.S. army. Following his discharge, he returned to Corvallis where he was employed by Rex Clemens and Ed Albertson until his retirement. Survivors include one brother, W. W. 'Ed' Smith, Corvallis; two nephews, Alfred Smith, Salem, and Clarence Smith, Corvallis and numerous other nieces and nephews.Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery. Image Gallery
