Chosen a townsmen of Hempstead in 1661. In 1676 he was involved in rioting in Cowneck in an attempt to throw off men who had taken possession of the area. They plead not guilty but were found guilty in court.

He was made overseer of the estate of his sister Sarah’s husband Thomas Carle in March 1676/7.
