Thursday October Christian (14 October 1790 – 21 April 1831) was the first son of Fletcher Christian (leader of the historical mutiny on the Bounty) and his Tahitian wife Mauatua. He was conceived on Tahiti, and was the first child born on the Pitcairn Islands after the mutineers took refuge on the island. Born on a Thursday in October, he was given his unusual name because Fletcher Christian wanted his son to have "no name that will remind me of England."

Thursday, at age 16, married an older native woman, Teraura (Susannah/Susan Young), who had been Ned Young's original . She was past 30 at the time of the marriage. The ceremony was carried out with a ring that had belonged to Ned Young.

On April 5, 1789, the HMS Bounty began sailing back to England from Tahiti with its cargo of breadfruit plants.

Three weeks and 1,300 miles later, mutiny broke out.

The mutineers, led by Fletcher Christian, took control of the ship. They sent commanding officer Lt. William Bligh and the rest of the crew out on a small boat.

The mutineers returned to Tahiti. Most stayed there. The rest sailed on to Pitcairn Island, bringing with them a group of kidnapped Tahitian women.

The first baby born to the mutineers and their Tahitian wives was Fletcher Christian’s son. He arrived in mid-October, 1790, on what was thought to be a Thursday, so he was named Thursday October Christian.

He had an athletic figure, and was quaintly attired in a vest without sleeves and trousers to the knee. He wore a hat jauntily decked with black cock's feathers. He had a dark complexion, with jet black hair flowing down his shoulders. (Description by Captain Pipon after first sighting him). When he was married to Teraura, the ceremony was carried out with a ring belonging to Ned Young.
