[] Was the first American ancestor and father of four sons-"The Four 'Fathers of the Family' ". He changed the spelling of the name Swearingen and dropped the "van". He named one of his sons Van. He lived in Somerset County, MD where he accumulated considerable land and where he died. Notes for Thomas Swearingen: Changed spelling of name from Van Swearingenand to Swearingen.
