Thomas Swinburne of Barmston, co. Pal., Esq. Living at Butterby, co. Pal. age 69 in 1666 (Surtees 'History of Durham' p. 279)

Author of famous "Swinburne Letters" on the defence of Rome, till recently in the British Museum. His cousin was the famous "Recusant" John Swinburne. "Declined to join the Protestant Party and turned his sons out of doors because they did so." This is the Warwickshire tradition.
