1841 census for Ramsey, Huntingdonshire, England, p. 100 Folio 571 lists T homas Maynard, age 40 (Note: the 1841 census rounded the age to the neare st 5/0) as a shoemaker, born in the county. The 1851 census lists his a ge as 54, occupation cordwainer, place of birth Ramsey, Hunt. Congregati on is listed as "M" (= Methodist?). A Cordwainer/Cordwiner originally w as a term used for a person who worked with Cordovan, a special soft leath er from Spain, but later it became the term used for a shoemaker. Parish records of St. Thomas of Canterbury, Ramsey, indicate John Butch er and Susanna were married on October 12, 1789. Only 7 children were bap tized although there may be an eighth child, Jane Jemima. Jane was witne ss to Susanna's wedding and Thomas and Mary Maynard were witnesses at h er wedding to William Lant. Burial Registers for St. Thomas a Becket in Ramsey show that Thomas Maynar d, aged 81 years, Huntingdon Union, was buried on May 23, 1878. The Certi fied Copy of his Entry of Death shows that in the Registration Distri ct of Huntingdon, sub-district of Huntingdon in the County of Huntingdo n, Thomas Maynard, male, age 81 years, a shoemaker, died on May 20, 187 8, at the Union Workhouse, Huntingdon, as the result of general paralys is (stroke?]. The only other parish entries for the surname Maynard are the marriage rec ords of John Maynard and Elizabeth Curtis of Bythorn who were married at C onington in 1724, and Jonathan Maynard who married Elizabeth Symms at Brin gton in 1733. At this time, any connection with Thomas Maynard is unknown .
